Justice!2Face Idibia Sues Magazine For False Story On Him Impregnating A Lagos Banker

Award-winning Nigerian singer, 2Face Idibia has filed a N100 million lawsuit against a local soft-sell magazine, Icon Weekly, for libel.
Icon Weekly had in March 2014, published a story in which  2Face was alleged to have impregnated a 'top Lagos banker', who was also his account officer in one of the new generation banks and that, the lady had every intention of keeping the baby. continue

2Face had immediately denied all the allegations, rubbishing the reports and even finding humor out of the affair. But 3 months after, The Media/Entertainment Law Firm of L & A- Legal Consultants has filed libel proceedings on behalf of  2Face, at the Ikeja High Court, asking the court to award their client the sum of N100 million, being damages for the libelous publication posted on the magazine’s online and print platforms.
Insider reports have revealed that the story (which was found to hold no truth), had a negative impact not only on 2Face's marital life, but also affected his financials. He is reported to have lost a very lucrative business deal, and endured a strained relationship with his wife, Annie Idibia.
A source close to the music icon said the story, which was found to be false, made 2 Face lose a very lucrative deal and caused ripples between him and his wife. Icon weekly is said to have approached 2 Face’s team for discussions on a possible out of court settlement.
A legal expert, Adedayo Matti, speaking with JKB has shared extra light on the case, stating that 2Face Idibia holds all the aces, and if the case make it to court, he will have the judgement in his favour, unless Icon Weekly Magazine can prove their story.
“The burden of proof lies with the Magazine. They have to prove beyond reasonable doubt that their story was factual, well-researched and true. If they can't then 2face will surely get a positive ruling.
“If the case finally goes to trial, and they cannot prove their story, 2face will be awarded his N100 million, and if they can't pay, then all their property will be impounded and sold by the cout until they raise the money to right their wrong. For 2Face though, it might not necessarily be about the money, I think he's more concerned about clearing his name. An out of court settlement might be reached.” Matti revealed.
JKB will keep you updated as the story unfolds.
